About the Area

219 County Road 2 is located in Cardinal, in the Edwardsburgh/Cardinal Township, approximately 1 hour (101 km) from Ottawa. It is approximately a 10 minute (10.6km) drive to the Ogdensburg Prescott International Bridge in Johnstown, crossing to Ogdensburg, New York.

The village of Cardinal was founded by Captain High Munro in the late 1700s, making the area rich in history. The area was idea due to it's proximatey to the river, providing both a means of transportation and water power produced from the Galops rapids. As more settlers arrived to take advantage of the areas rich resources, the population reached 1000 by 1895.  The population of the entire township is now at approximately 6,959 (2011),

The Saint Lawrence River in Cardinal is home to two sunken ships, which are popular dive sites for both tourists and locals. Both shipwrecks are even visible by land. Cardinal is also home to the Galop Canal, no longer used but a popular destination for swimming, picnics, and diving.
