Ottawa's Stay-at-Home order has been extended until after Family Day. With this being the first long weekend of the year, we usually see families taking advantage of the time-off and heading outdoors for some winter fun or away from the city. With the Stay-at-Home order in effect, here are some fun things you can do at home with your family!
Virtual Museum Experiences:
Museum at Home brings the museum experience to you! They offer virtual experiences for some of Ottawa's most loved museums. Here are just a few to get started:
National Gallery of Canada: The National Gallery of Canada is home to some of the most extraordinary collections of art from across Canada and around the world. Virtual NGC offers online access to some of the Collections held at the Museum. They also have some activities for kids and adults to get creative with!

Many Ottawa companies have worked hard to provide you and your family with some awesome activities to enjoy from the comfort of your own home. Here is a couple for you to try out this weekend:
Escape Manor: A virtual escape room might come across as a bit strange...but Ottawa's Escape Manor is here to prove us wrong. They have designed their experiences to have a real-world feel about them!
Ruckify Rentals: Founded in Ottawa, this company strives to create a rent anything marketplace. This includes board games! They have hundreds of board games available to rent. As a family, you can try a new board game together or rediscover a classic that you may not have anymore!
Winterlude: Winterlude is THE winter event that Ottawa looks forward to every year. This year, it looks a little bit different. There is a National Virtual Show that is available to stream until February 21st. You can also view and vote for the professional ice sculptors participating in this year's Ice-Carving Competition.
Ottawa Public Library: The Ottawa Public Library has put together some amazing virtual programs that include, cooking demonstrations, author visits, and sessions on various topics.
A Night at the Movies: Grab the popcorn and your coziest blankets! Maybe even have your kids get creative and design some movie posters/tickets. Settle down in front of the TV for the night and watch a movie together as a family! It could be your family's go-to movie or a new one that nobody has seen before! Here are some movie night snack ideas to inspire you!
Challenges for Charity:
Here are some great outdoor activities that support an even greater cause! These are a couple of activities that can be done without gathering in public places. Participate in these challenges from your home!
The Snow Angel Challenge: The Snowsuit Fund of Ottawa is hosting the Snow Angel Challenge throughout the month of February. All you have to do is make a snow angel, upload a photo of you doing it to any social media platform and tag them in your post.
Hunt for Hearts: The University of Ottawa Heart Institute Foundation is hosting an online Scavenger Hunt! Once you register, you receive a 'Kit' that acts as a virtual guide to solve problems, puzzles, and riddles!
Treat yourself and your family to a nice dinner and support your local restaurants at the same time! Restaurants have had to remain closed to the public since December 26th, with most places relying on take-out and delivery. You can explore Local Eats YOW for some ideas on where to order!
Hopefully, this list helps inspire some ideas for fun family activities for the long weekend! Stay Home and Stay Safe!
